Before the dark came

DSC_1276[1]
Before the dark
came,
and the shadowed
shapes
stretched sinewy
fingers
into the night;

Before the wind
chaffed
and chilled us,
shivered us to
the core
and chattered
our teeth
involuntarily;

Before then,

The oasis shaft
of light
gloried
the sky,
glimmered
its warmth,
blazed in our
eyes
its token
of return.

Before the dark came.
